Senior Functional Safety Engineer
We are looking for a Senior Functional Safety Engineer to take a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with ISO 26262 standards during the development and integration of safety-critical systems. From defining and validating functional safety work products to collaborating with partners and suppliers, you’ll play a key part in delivering robust safety concepts for autonomous vehicles and advanced technologies. Your expertise will shape functional safety tools, processes, and templates across the company.

What will you do?
As a Senior Functional Safety Engineer, you’ll be based primarily in the office with occasional travel to partner and supplier sites. You’ll work closely with the Functional Safety Manager, internal teams, and engineering partners to ensure safety compliance across all project stages. Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and reviewing functional safety work products, such as Item Definitions, HARA, and Functional Safety Concepts, in compliance with ISO 26262.
- Collaborating with engineering partners to achieve functional safety deliverables.
- Interfacing with suppliers to design and implement functional safety concepts at the vehicle level.
- Supporting the Functional Safety Manager in refining tools, processes, and templates aligned with agile workflows.
- Contributing to developing and releasing the Safety Case and supporting audits and assessments.
- Performing risk assessments using tools such as DFMEA and FTA, and addressing identified hazards.
- Ensuring seamless integration of functional safety requirements with Tier 1 suppliers.
- Driving continuous improvement in functional safety processes and templates.
What do you need to succeed?
Essential Skills & Experience:
- In-depth knowledge of ISO 26262 standards and functional safety processes.
- Expertise in hazard analysis, risk assessment, functional safety concepts, DFMEA, and FTA for automotive embedded systems (hardware and software).
- Proven track record managing functional safety across project lifecycles, ideally in an OEM or Tier 1 supplier setting.
- Familiarity with requirement management tools such as DOORS or JAMA.
- Strong systems engineering knowledge, including hardware and software design principles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Familiarity with SOTIF (Safety of the Intended Functionality).
- Experience in functional safety for autonomous vehicles or ADAS features.
- Knowledge of software quality standards and processes, such as Automotive SPICE.
